This is a quaint old Inn in the wilds of Maine .....We stumbled on this when looking for a stopover en route to Quebec! Location is spectacular , with a summer stock theater and excellent restaurant abutting the property. Staying here is like stepping back into time with sunrise over the lake your view in the morning. That said the innkeeper keeps this property very neat and clean but it does show its age. Victorian decor including classic shared baths in interesting colors lol! Don't expect air conditioning, no room TVs....some peeling wallpaper and paint are noticed . BUT do expect warm charm, a great innkeeper, a fantastic breakfast , beautiful grounds and location with breezes off the lake all at a very affordable rate. We paid $45 per person including breakfast and had three charming comfortable rooms at our disposal. Far better than the local hotels..even the 12 year old loved it! You can even rent one of two cottages on the property nightly or weekly with rustic pine logs and accents! Would recommend staying here and perhaps scheduling so that you can enjoy the theater and dinner next door. Did not get the chance to do the theater but the dinner at the restaurant was superb! If you must there is a marvelous Victorian parlor with TV but sitting out on the screen porch or lakeside Adirondack chairs is a far better experience.
Adorable place with great breakfast, beautiful views of Wesserunsett, friendly owners, and cozy rooms.
PS the innkeeper has been the owner for decades and would like to retire.....I hope this old Jewel survives....you could be the next Innkeeper of this property for $655,000...I looked it up!
Astoundingly relaxing location; sitting down at the lake can't be beat. The place is very quaint and old world. The owner and his dog Jake are very friendly. We stayed in the cottage and it was a great deal for the price. There could be a few fixes and tidying up done but it's a great laid back place.
The colony house is a beautiful and stately property with waterfront views and a quaint charm that instantly relaxes you. The rooms are full of antiques and the type of charm that reminded me of stays at Grandma's house - old fashioned blankets, decorations, and furniture. The inn is for sale, which I think is something to keep in mind when reading my next comments. Three negatives to our stay - one, the bathroom was carpeted, and there was no bathroom mat for the floor, and a few items in our room (decorations) were a bit dusty. When I stepped into the shower, I was surprised at the very poor shower head that needed to be replaced - water did not flow out freely. When I looked at the plastic shower curtain inside the shower I was appalled to find it full of mold. The next morning at breakfast we found dust (or perhaps it was pollen?) on our silverware and glasses. Breakfast was simple but good and we had a relaxing time in the beautiful dining room. Inn keeper was very friendly and welcoming - place just needed a little work on the details.
Very nice! Hosts are friendly and very accommodating. The inn is like stepping back in time. A must visit!
